In a decisive crackdown on illicit narcotics operations, commendations are due to the dedicated officers of Regional Division #10 for orchestrating a highly successful eradication exercise. On March 7th, 2024, law enforcement authorities descended upon the remote Ebini backdam, Berbice River, where they uncovered and dismantled four expansive cannabis farms spanning a total of 5.5 acres.
The scale of the operation was staggering, with an estimated street value of $159,932,960 attributed to the seized contraband. Each farm bore witness to the illicit cultivation and production of cannabis, underscoring the persistent efforts of criminal elements to subvert the law.
The meticulous nature of the operation is evident in the detailed inventory of each farm’s contents. The first farm, spanning two acres, harbored an extensive array of 6,400 cannabis plants, meticulously arranged across one hundred and sixty beds. With an average weight of 7,040 Kg, the illicit yield was valued at $1,084,160.
Similarly, the subsequent farms, each spanning two acres and one acre respectively, boasted substantial quantities of cannabis plants, accompanied by makeshift camps outfitted with basic amenities. The discovery of dried cannabis stockpiles further underscored the sophistication of the operation, with quantities totaling 91.626 Kg and a street value of $82,463,400.
Despite the absence of arrests during the raid, authorities ensured the preservation of evidence by escorting the tallest cannabis plants to the Mackenzie Police Station for further processing. Meanwhile, photographs documenting the eradication process serve as a testament to the unwavering commitment of law enforcement to combat drug-related crimes.
The destruction of the illicit farms represents a significant victory in the ongoing battle against narcotics trafficking, sending a clear message that illegal activities will not be tolerated within our communities. However, the eradication exercise also highlights the pervasive nature of the drug trade and the challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing its proliferation.
As the embers of the destroyed farms smolder, it serves as a stark reminder of the resilience required to safeguard our communities from the scourge of illicit drugs. While the immediate threat has been neutralized, the fight against drug trafficking remains an ongoing priority, requiring continued vigilance and collaboration among law enforcement agencies and the public alike.
