Police are investigating the death of 88-y-o Sandy Adonis of Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara which occured yesterday at around 16:10hrs on the Republic of the Avenue, Georgetown involving motor lorry, GMM 3568.
According to an eye witness, the truck, with trailer TTT 5330, was proceeding south along Avenue of the Republic and came to a stop at the traffic light located at the intersection of Avenue of the Republic and Regent Street.
A red car stopped alongside the trailer when Adonis approached the left front passenger side of the car and was interacting with the person in the passenger seat.
As the traffic light changed to green, the motor lorry started to move off, the individual who was seated in the front passenger seat of the car, allegedly pushed Adonis, who fell backwards and under the trailer which rolled over his body.
As a result, the 88 year-old man received injuries to his head and other parts of his body.
An Ambulance was summoned which arrived shortly on the scene with medical personnel who pronounced him dead at the scene.
The body was escorted to Lyken Funeral Parlour where it is presently awaiting a Post Mortem Examination.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of the lorry and no trace of alcohol was found in his system.
The driver remains in custody as further investigations are ongoing.
