Mother turns son over to CANU

A mother turned over her 32-year-old son to the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) on Easter Monday, one week after he evaded ranks during a search of his Lot 699 6th Street, Dazzle Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara house.

A release from CANU late Tuesday night revealed that 1.5 kilograms (3.3 lbs) of suspected Cannabis were found at Rawle Farrell’s house on March 29, 2021. The anti-drug agency said that ranks raided the house following information received.

It is alleged that Farrell escaped after he saw the ranks; some officers gave chase while others secured the scene, CANU said, but Farrell managed to outrun them.

At the house, ranks found several zip-loc plastic bags and bulky parcels with leaves, seed and stems, all suspected to be cannabis at the property. During the search, Farrell’s mother arrived and told officers that her son lived at the premises alone and she “never knew he is do drugs.”

According to CANU, she promised to have him surrender. The mother kept her promise, and on Monday, April 5, she presented him, accompanied by his lawyer at CANU Headquarters, where he was arrested.

Farrell is expected to appear at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning.
