The brother of well-known entrepreneur, Stanley Ming, died on Friday, one day after being involved in an accident with an ambulance that was transporting a COVID-19 patient to the Infectious Diseases Hospital at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara.

Samuel Collin Ming, age 67, of Delhi Street, Prashad Nagar, died in the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where he was admitted and was undergoing treatment for his injuries.

The accident occurred on April 1, 2021 on the JB Singh Road and Thomas Lands, Georgetown between an ambulance #PVV 7693 and motorcycle #CE 614.

The driver of the ambulance, who was arrested, has since complained of feeling unwell and is presently a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital under police guard.

A police statement noted that the driver claimed he was proceeding north along Irving Street at about 45 kmph with his sirens blaring and he was sounding his horn.

As he was crossing the intersection of JB Singh and Thomas Road, the motorcycle, which was proceeding west on JB Singh Road, collided with the rear right side portion of the ambulance.

As a result of the collision, Ming fell onto the roadway and received injuries to his body. He was picked up in a conscious condition by the EMT and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of the ambulance but no trace of alcohol was found.
