Motorcyclist dies after crashing into back of minibus



A Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown resident died on Friday afternoon at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) hours after he crashed his motorcycle (CK 6480) into the back of a minibus on the Prospect Public Road, East Bank Demerara.

Police Headquarters, in a statement, noted that Calvin Pitt ended up in the back seat of minibus BMM 5344 as a result of the impact.

According to the police report, the accident occurred at around 09:00h; Pitt died at about 15:30h. He suffered severe head injuries, broken ribs and fractured legs along with a series of other injuries.  Police said Pitt lost consciousness when he arrived at GPHC.

It is alleged that the minibus was proceeding north along the western drive lane of the road when the driver said he felt a hard impact on the back of his vehicle.

“As a result of the collision, the driver of the motorcycle was flung into the air and flew into the rear window screen of the minibus and then landed on the rear passenger seat,” the police statement noted.

The driver of the minibus tested negative for alcohol. Investigations are ongoing.
