Residents on Wednesday managed to control a fire onboard the MV Barima at the Port Kaituma Waterfront in Region One.
The origin of the fire is unknown at this time but residents came together and managed to put out the blaze.
The Guyana Guardian understands that after persons saw smoke emanating from the vessel, they quickly began to empty the fuel into the water.
The vessel arrived at Port Kaituma on Sunday last with food supplies. Remedial works were done on the vessel in January following an engine failure.
